Meta Quest 3 Review: The Mixed-Reality Headset That Finally Makes Sense
Full-colour passthrough turns the Quest from a games box into a window, and that changes everything.

Pros
- Excellent colour passthrough
- Comfortable, lighter design
- Huge game library
Cons
- Battery life
- Mixed-reality apps still thin
- Facebook account friction
The Quest 3, out from 10 October 2023 at $499, is the first mainstream headset where mixed reality feels like the point rather than a party trick. Full-colour passthrough lets digital objects sit convincingly in your real room.
It is also simply a better Quest: lighter on the face, sharper lenses and the deepest game and fitness library in VR. For the money, nothing else delivers this much.
Battery life still tops out around a couple of hours, the genuinely useful mixed-reality apps are still arriving, and Meta's account requirements remain a low-grade annoyance. None of it undoes the value.
FieldLens verdict: the best-value headset you can buy, and the clearest preview yet of why lightweight glasses are the prize everyone is chasing.
The facts
